22nd Annual S. Randolph Edmonds Young Scholars Competition
A CALL FOR PAPERS
This competition seeks to encourage research and scholarship in Black Theatre. Entrants need not be members of the Black Theatre Network to submit.
REQUIREMENTS
- Papers must be concerned with an aspect of the Black Theatre in either the United States or throughout the world.
- Papers must be typed, double-spaced, and in MLA Format with a Works Cited page. If applicable, also include endnotes that demonstrate awareness of formal methods of documentation.
- Papers should be approximately 10 pages in length, not including endnotes and
Works Cited or Bibliography.
- Students should submit their own work; a professor should not submit on the student’s behalf. Please include a cover letter stating entrant’s name, college or university, class rank, (i.e., freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, 1st year graduate student), current and permanent address (if not the same), telephone number, and email address.
- ONE submission per student. Choose your best work.
- Do not send for the conference planner’s consideration a proposal that represents the same paper that you have entered (or will enter) into this contest.
- Contestants are encouraged to seek assistance from their Professors.
AWARDS
- A first place prize of $250.00 and second place prize of $100.00 will be awarded in both Division I (Undergraduate), and Division II (Graduate).
- A free one-year membership in the Black Theatre Network.
- Winners will be invited to deliver their papers at the 2008 Black Theatre Network Conference in Orlando, Florida, hosted by the University of Florida and Disney World.
- Winners will attend a special reception in their honor at the conference.

Completed papers must be received no later than May 12, 2008 and should be sent to:
