The vision for a Black theatre crossed the Middle Passage and settled in the slave quarters of Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, Florida, and in the streets of New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and everywhere the stories were told, the songs were sung, and the dances displayed. . . .

Ethel Pitts-Walker, BTN first President

This is another time to focus on the vision, “to proclaim across the nation that Black theatre is alive, strong, creative, imaginative, diverse, communal, dynamic, aggressive, and ready to take its rightful place among the theatres of the world.”

 Mikell Pinkney, BTN 6th President
