The University of Virginia Department of Drama announces a search for an Artistic Director of the Heritage Theatre Festival (HTF), the University's professional summer theatre festival. The HTF Artistic Director will hold a faculty position in the Department of Drama. As the HTF Artistic Director the successful candidate will engage in preparation and ongoing collaboration with creative and management teams during the academic year, and be in residence during the summer festival season. Building on the success of the HTF, the successful candidate will create a long-term vision for the festival and provide executive and artistic direction that aligns with that vision. The Artistic Director will plan and manage the annual summer season, including budgeting, selecting and casting the season, hiring the artistic team, supervising staff, fundraising and community engagement. As a member of the Drama teaching faculty the successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with colleagues and students to create rich educational experiences throughout the academic year and during the Heritage Theatre Festival summer season.
This is a full-time, academic position open to candidates qualified to teach in the BA/MFA programs; the successful candidate will engage in the department's academic production season in the candidate's area of expertise. Depending on qualifications, the position could be open rank tenured/tenure-track or open rank non-tenure track General Faculty. All applicants must have a terminal degree in theatre or commensurate level of professional experience. For tenured/tenure track consideration, strong evidence of creative work in the performing arts is expected.
