The Department of Theatre Arts at the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN – LA CROSSE invites applications for a full-time, tenure track, Theatre Performance position beginning Fall 2017. The Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, with 7 tenure track faculty, 2 instructional staff, and approximately 80 undergraduate majors/minors, strives to put quality student education and support of all department members first. We are searching for a teaching theatre artist who, through their specific experience and background, can contribute to the array of classes we can teach and the range of stories we can tell from the stage, adding to the diversity of our students’ and our region’s theatrical experiences. The ideal candidate will have a very strong background in acting, directing and movement pedagogy. Primary responsibilities will include: Teaching performance classes such as Voice and Diction, Movement, Stage Combat, Directing, and advanced acting topics; Teaching Theatre Appreciation; Peer-reviewed creative activity and/or scholarship, including directing one production each semester; Advising student academics and capstone projects; Providing service in recruitment of new undergraduate students; Participation in department activities; Teaching or developing courses such as Multicultural-, African-American-, Latino-a, Asian-American, Native-American, or World Theatre, or the History of Musical Theatre.
Required qualifications: Candidates for the appointment should have or be near to completing an MFA, doctorate, or equivalent degree in Theatre Performance or a related field by the employment start date. Degree must be earned by the first personnel review, no later than May 15, 2018; A commitment to and/or experience with achieving goals relative to diversity and inclusion; A diverse portfolio of successful directing experience; Professional experience in acting and/or directing; Demonstrated ability to teach a diverse array of classes in higher education or other relevant setting. Preferred qualifications: Training and experience in one or more of the following: stage combat, movement, voice and diction, and classics/styles; A strong interest in developing a broad cultural perspective in courses and performances; A collaborative and open-minded approach to working with students and colleagues.
