Musical Theatre Voice faculty position, Penn State School of Theatre

The Penn State School of Theatre invites applications for a full time voice teacher position in the BFA Musical Theatre program. Rank and salary commensurate with experience, tenure track possible. The position will work with the head of musical theatre and other faculty to build on the program’s many strengths in voice training for the musical theatre artist. Duties include teaching studio private voice to BFA musical theatre majors, coaching BFA and MFA students in musical theatre, and teaching class voice. In addition to teaching the technique surrounding the voice, there is an expectation that the studio time includes ear training, musicianship, and song interpretation. The ideal candidate will have a passion for remaining current in the field with regard to evolving styles, techniques, and voice pedagogy. Participation in student recruitment, faculty committees and governance is expected.

Qualifications include significant professional experience in teaching musical theatre singing - as well as professional experience singing musical theatre. Knowledge of classical vocal repertoire as well as all styles of musical theatre is expected – including pop, rock, country, and rap/ spoken word. Candidate must have a comprehensive knowledge of the musical theatre repertoire and possess some piano skills. National exposure in musical theatre pedagogy is desired. Terminal degree or professional equivalent required.
