Assistant – Associate Teaching Professor – UC San Diego MFA Acting Program

THE DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE AND DANCE at UC SAN DIEGO ( invites applications to join our MFA Professional Acting Program beginning July 1, 2018. The academic appointment for this position will be for an Assistant Teaching Professor (also termed Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment) OR Associate Teaching Professor (also termed Lecture with Security of Employment) depending upon the candidate’s experience and accomplishments. The UCSD Acting Program is a nationally recognized conservatory-based program within a vibrant Research 1 University. The nationally respected regional theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, is located on the campus and offers artistic opportunities for students and faculty. The successful candidate will serve as a core member of the MFA Acting Area and will be expected to teach all levels of movement. Candidate will also serve as a mentor to students in and out of production and contribute in all areas of leadership within the area, i.e. recruitment, evaluation, casting, and advising.

Required Qualifications: Must possess a MFA or PhD; extensive experience as a movement instructor and/or coach or director in the professional arena; certification and/or experience in various movement disciplines such as LeCoq, Laban, Feldenkrais, Mask Work, Improvisation, Physical Theatre, Mime, Juggling, Acrobatics, and Circus Techniques. Preferred Qualifications: University and/or conservatory teaching experience. Background in developing a comprehensive movement curriculum is highly desired. The ideal candidate will have strong demonstrated accomplishments or plans in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity.

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications based on University of California pay scales.
