Asst./Assoc. Professor of Theatre, Voice and Speech

Penn State School of Theatre invites applications for a full-time, tenure track appointment to teach voice and speech at the assistant or associate professor rank to begin August 2018. The candidate will teach voice and speech classes at both the graduate and undergraduate level. The successful candidate will teach vocal production, speech, text, and dialects and accents in a manner compatible with the needs of the program. No specific voice or speech teaching method is required but expertise and/or certification in a known methodology is preferred (i.e. Fitzmaurice, Miller Voice Method, Knight-Thompson Speechwork, etc.). Candidates who have a background and training in a specific methodology should demonstrate in their application an ability to incorporate other techniques and to be open & flexible in their approach to the work. Relevant teaching experience and a sound knowledge of anatomy of the human voice are essential. A secondary area of expertise might include a physical approach to acting (i.e. Lecoq, Michael Chekhov, etc.) and/or a body-focused technique (i.e. Alexander, Feldenkrais, etc.).

Additional responsibilities of this position will include but are not limited to student tutorials and production vocal, text and/or dialect coaching. We seek an applicant who is interested in an integrated and collaborative approach to actor training and in developing such a curriculum with the performance area team.
