Professor of the Practice Position in Theatre Arts and Performance Studies: Head of Physical Theatre of Brown/Trinity MFA Program Position Description: The Brown University / Trinity Rep MFA Programs in Acting and Directing seek a Head of Physical Theatre beginning on July 1, 2017. The selected applicant will be responsible for the training of the MFA cohort of actors and directors. As primary instructor for the Physical Theatre area of the MFA Programs, the appointment requires approximately 15 hours per week of classroom teaching. The Head of Physical Theatre will also work with the faculty in mentoring student productions by attending rehearsals, critiquing student productions and occasionally choreographing student productions as part of their pedagogical duties in addition to routine service duties. The applicant will also be expected to teach Brown undergrad classes in rotation with continuing duties at Brown/Trinity. The Head of Physical Theatre will hold an appointment from Brown University as Professor of the Practice.
Qualifications: A successful applicant will have a major focus in Dell’Arte, Clown, or Modern Dance training, with supplemental work in Yoga, Mask, Viewpoints, Improvisation, Puppetry, and/or Devised Work. Alexander Technique is a primary method of training in the program. Applicant’s focus should be compatible with this training. MFA degree preferred; BA or BFA required. 3-5 years of university, conservatory or studio teaching required. Members of Underrepresented Minority Groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
