Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance

The Pomona College Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for a tenure-track position in the teaching of acting and directing at the assistant professor level. The position requires a terminal degree in theatre. The Department of Theatre and Dance supports equal access to higher education and values working in a richly diverse environment. The candidate is expected to be specialized in or be knowledgeable about a variety of acting and directing techniques. The candidate is also expected to help provide vision and leadership for the performance area of an eight-member department. Responsibilities include teaching all levels of acting (advanced, intermediate, and introductory), teaching introduction to directing, and directing one mainstage production each year. The teaching load is 2 full-credit courses per semester.

The successful candidate will have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving higher education for underrepresented students. The candidate must understand the goals of theatre education within the liberal arts mission of the College, and embody these goals in teaching, service, and professional achievement (which may include creative activity and/or traditional research). Significant experience with college teaching (beyond graduate assistantships) and/or professional experience is preferred. The appointment begins July 1, 2018.
