MUSICAL THEATRE – Assistant Professor of Theatre (Musical Theatre): Oakland University. The Department of Theatre in the School of Music, Theatre and Dance invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre—Musical Theatre position beginning August 15, 2019. Responsibilities of this artist/educator: teach undergraduate courses in the musical theatre BFA curriculum such as Acting the Song, Musical Theatre Workshop, Musicianship and Singing Styles; advising students and helping graduating students transition to the professional world. University teaching experience or the ability to demonstrate potential teaching effectiveness, and a record of successful professional work in musical theatre required. Qualified candidates must possess an MFA in Theatre (acting/directing or musical theatre) or comparable degree, plus professional experience; or a master’s degree or BFA with extensive professional experience. Experience in other areas such as stage direction, choreography, vocal coaching and music directing are a plus. Keyboard skills preferred, but not required. The successful candidate will have an understanding of musical theatre tradition along with a familiarity with contemporary musicals and emerging industry trends, be enthusiastic and dedicated to teaching, recruiting/retention and service; and to positive collaboration with fellow artists/faculty within a highly integrated department and school while pursuing growth and success in professional work.
