The Costume Director is a key member of the Production team at the Huntington Theatre Company, responsible for all aspects of costume design execution, including determining the specifications and build schedules, and management of costume shop staff, budgets, and equipment. Creativity and the ability to learn and manage change are paramount as the Huntington experiences a period of dynamic growth including the upcoming renovation of our largest theatre, and the design of a support facility which will include new costume shop facilities.
Specifically, the Costume Director:
• Supervises the construction, alterations, purchasing, and rentals of costumes for each production, including wardrobe and wigs/hair.
• Interprets the costume designers’ renderings into full scale costumes based upon conversation, renderings, and research provided by the costume designer.
• Leads the effort to generate revenue through costume stock rentals and building costumes for external companies. This includes managing and promoting rentals and outside projects, managing and maintaining current stock, and building rental stock.
• Guides and supervises employees in the more complex phases of their work, trains new employees, ensures proper use of all materials by all staff, and provides quality training and development for the department.
