Visiting Artists in Theater Design and Technology

SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY Visiting Artists in Theater Design and Technology (One-Semester, Non-Tenure-Track)

The Syracuse University Department of Drama (Ralph Zito, Professor and Chair) seeks to hire up to two Visiting Artists in Theater Design and Technology for one-semester residencies during the 2019-20 academic year. Visiting artists will execute some or all of the following, based on expertise: teach courses and/or workshops in their area(s) of expertise; serve as a designer for at least one department production; and serve as design advisor to student designers in all areas of theatrical design, guiding them in the creation and realization of professional quality theatrical designs in accordance with current best professional practices. Although applications from all areas of design are welcome and encouraged, preference will be given to those with expertise in theatrical Lighting Design, with additional expertise in television/film/event design and/or at least one other area of theatrical design (preferably Projection Design). These are one-semester, non-tenure track positions. A bachelor's degree in relevant field with substantive professional theatrical design experience is required; an MFA and professional experience in theatrical design is preferred. University-level teaching experience preferred. Additional qualifications include: proven ability to successfully design professional-quality department productions, as demonstrated by a record of professional accomplishment; ability and willingness to collaborate with Program faculty in the delivery of a curriculum that builds on a strong existing foundation and responds effectively to the artistic needs of an ever-changing profession. The department is interested in candidates whose teaching, creative activity, and/or professional experience will contribute to the understanding of diversity and equity, or which addresses questions of interest to historically under-represented or underserved communities. Positions begin August 2019 for fall semester and January 2020 for spring semester.
