Assistant Professor of Dance

Bates College invites applications for a tenure track position in Dance within the Department of Theater and Dance beginning in September of 2020. Bates is an undergraduate liberal arts institution offering a major and minor in dance and hosting the internationally acclaimed Bates Dance Festival. Qualifications: Master of Fine Arts degree or PhD in dance or a dance related area of study is required, as is a strong studio and creative profile; demonstrable college level teaching experience, preferably in a Department of Theater and Dance; evidence of commitment to diversity and inclusion in an academic environment. Evidence of a scholarly trajectory is desired, as is an expansive and interdisciplinary approach to the performing arts as a whole.

Applicants should submit the following materials: a letter of application (cover letter), curriculum vitae, a statement on inclusive pedagogies in teaching, a research statement that must include links to performance work, and includes written research outcomes where applicable as well; three letters of recommendation, and two sample syllabi of relevant courses. Review of applications begins October 15th, 2019 and will continue until the position has been filled. Employment is contingent on successful completion of a background check.
