Performing Arts Production Manager UNC Charlotte

JOB: EPA FACULTY LECTURER (12 Month): PRODUCTION MANAGER COLLEGE OF ARTS + ARCHITECTURE THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHARLOTTE

FACULTY LECTURER, three-year renewable contract, 12-month appointment beginning January 2, 2020. Position resides within the College of Arts + Architecture’s Performing Arts Services and reports to the Associate Dean for Performing Arts.

The Production Manager oversees all productions and performance spaces in the College of Arts + Architecture. This includes working with the Associate Dean for Performing Arts and Chairs of the Departments of Dance, Music and Theatre to develop and maintain a master calendar and production schedule (planning is typically done on a two-year cycle); scheduling and running production meetings as needed; managing all production schedules with regard to labor, space and budgets; managing the production shops and production personnel (students, staff, student workers and part-time employees) and (with the faculty Stage Manager), select and supervise running crews for both academic and rental events.

The Production Manager is expected to provide robust and strategic leadership in a manner that will contribute to collegial and collaborative initiatives in support of a culturally diverse, interdisciplinary environment that embraces students, staff, faculty, and administrators.

Qualifications: This position requires a degree in theatre management and/or 3-5 years of experience in stage or production management. Primary consideration will be given to candidates with an M.F.A. in performance management or production. Experience with dance, music and theatre in an educational setting and a demonstrated understanding of the relationship between design and production is preferred.

This position requires strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. A demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, faculty, and staff is essential. An articulated, supported approach to diversity should be included in the cover letter addressing, “What assets do you bring to serving a diverse student population at an “urban research” campus?” The Production Manager must have the ability to manage relationships across multiple disciplines with varying degrees of experience and knowledge, as well as the ability to foster and maintain positive, professional working relationships.

Additional qualifications include a demonstrated understanding of industry standard production processes and scheduling practices, including but not limited to working knowledge of all production department needs and responsibilities, as well as a strong understanding of the relationship between design and production.
