Theatre - Dance

This full-time temporary Theatre department position in Dance will teach 4 sections of dance classes each semester. These courses would be chosen from the following dance classes: Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Hip-Hop, Musical Theatre Dance, Modern and World Dance, Introduction to Dance, and Viewpoints and Suzuki Movement Studies. There may be opportunity to give additional workshops and choreograph.

The faculty member is responsible for planning syllabus, meeting and teaching all classes, meeting office hours and providing and entering grades in a timely manner. Applicants must demonstrate an ability to interface with faculty, staff and students and to balance teaching and production needs of an active undergraduate program. They must contribute to the recruitment and retention program for the department and university. They must enjoy and have experience working with non majors.

Type of Position(s): Full-Time Temporary Required Qualifications: Requirements: MA or M.F.A. in Dance or related field. Experience in teaching dance at the college level and working with non-majors.

Preferred Requirements: M.F.A. in Dance or related field. Experience in teaching and choreographing at both the professional and college level and working with non-majors.

Assistant Professor of Dance

Bates College invites applications for a tenure track position in Dance within the Department of Theater and Dance beginning in September of 2020. Bates is an undergraduate liberal arts institution offering a major and minor in dance and hosting the internationally acclaimed Bates Dance Festival. Qualifications: Master of Fine Arts degree or PhD in dance or a dance related area of study is required, as is a strong studio and creative profile; demonstrable college level teaching experience, preferably in a Department of Theater and Dance; evidence of commitment to diversity and inclusion in an academic environment. Evidence of a scholarly trajectory is desired, as is an expansive and interdisciplinary approach to the performing arts as a whole.

Assistant Professor of Dance, Non-Tenure Track (NTT) effective Fall 2019

The School of Theatre and Dance seeks an engaging and collaborative individual who appreciates a diverse academic environment for a 9-month, renewable position in Musical Theatre Dance starting August 19, 2019. Positions joins a Dance faculty of six. The School offers B.F.A. degrees in Musical Theatre and Dance Performance, a Dance B.A., and produces eight productions annually. Opportunities exist for employment at the School’s professional summer theatre.

Responsibilities Teach theatre tap, jazz and ballet to dance and musical theatre majors. Choreograph for dance concerts and/or musicals. Teach from among partnering, jazz styles, commercial dance. Candidate will share creative advising and mentorship.

Qualifications M.F.A. and/or professional equivalent in Musical Theatre Dance. Experience teaching Musical Theatre Dance and choreography at the university or professional level.
