The Department of Theatre Arts at Ithaca College seeks candidates for a tenure-eligible position at the rank of assistant professor in performance (acting and secondary areas). Ithaca College develops theatre artists who not only practice theatre but also use theatre to reflect and shape the society in which we live. Ithaca College and the Department of Theatre Arts seeks greater diversity in our faculty to broaden our academic experience. We value input from multiple viewpoints and perspectives across the college; our goal is to create an academic artistic community that is rich with cultural, social, and intellectual diversity. The BFA in acting and musical theatre degrees offer the rigorous, highly-individualized training of a conservatory within the enriching foundation of a liberal arts education, designed to develop and strengthen the skills, hone the instincts, and foster the passion necessary for a professional career as a theatre artist.
The department is particularly interested in candidates who have a track record as a dynamic, inspiring teacher of acting with secondary areas of expertise, with significant professional experience as a professional actor and/or director, and a passion for teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. Terminal degree in appropriate discipline (such as MFA in Performance, Acting or Directing) required. Two or more secondary areas of expertise could include movement for the stage (various pedagogical approaches and techniques), integrated voice and movement, voice and speech, acting for the camera, musical theatre, dance, directing, audition techniques/career preparation, stage combat, and/or other related training approaches. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years as a teacher of acting at the college or conservatory level and/or significant professional experience as an actor and/or director. Opportunities may exist for the candidate to contribute to the mainstage or studio production season. Ongoing scholarly/creative/professional activity will be expected and supported. Faculty participate in the life of the department by auditioning prospective students, advising majors, and serving on appropriate committees in the practice of shared governance. Special consideration will be made for applicants who apply before October 20, 2017.
