Theatre Program Manager

The Hampshire theatre program manager (TPM) is a unique combination of technical director and production manager. The TPM is responsible for supervising and mentoring students, use of theatre spaces, and managing and advising the production portion of the theatre program. The TPM advises, instructs, and mentors students in theatre management and technical theatre practices; supervises and manages budgets; maintains equipment; and implements the program’s production policies. The TPM monitors the safe use of theatre facilities and equipment. This position hires and supervises work study students, and oversees the costume shop supervisor.

A bachelor’s degree with five years of related experience is required. Successful candidate must have in-depth knowledge of theatrical production and management procedures, and safe theatrical building practices. Applicants must possess an active commitment to mentoring undergraduate students while maintaining a positive and supportive educational environment. Particular emphasis is placed on working within a small, intensely collaborative program of faculty and students with a strong emphasis on student work. Occasionally the TMP will support faculty course related showcases, and guest artists presentations. Candidate must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Work schedule may include evenings and weekends. Technical Director

Exciting opportunity to join Lehigh University’s Department of Theatre and Zoellner Art Center as a technical director!

LEHIGH UNIVERSITY seeks a strong leader to coordinate and supervise the completion of technical and scenic construction needs for the Department of Theatre, including four mainstage productions and several smaller black box performances per academic year. Coordinate departmental use of scene shop, theatres, and other spaces shared with Zoellner Arts Center, and take part in general technical service planning. Work closely with faculty, guests, and arts center staff, provide oversight for calendar, budgets, production meetings, and technical rehearsals. Appointment as an adjunct assistant professor in Lehigh’s NAST-accredited BA theatre program teaching courses in areas of expertise. Supervise the scene shop and build scenery with assistant technical director, student crews, and wage employees. MFA in technical theatre or equivalent for this staff /adjunct faculty position. This is a 12-month exempt staff position, eligible to participate in Lehigh University’s benefits program. Salary in the mid-50,000 range. Technical Director: Stanford University Department of Theater and Performance Studies

Stanford University Department of Theater and Performance Studies (TAPS) is seeking a Technical Director to provide leadership and technical expertise for all department productions. The Technical Director ensures the successful interpretation, engineering, realization, and safety of all scenic, lighting, sound, and video designs, while maintaining a safe working environment for all. Directly responsible for the management of the production stage staff, overhire, and student staff working on scenery, lighting, sound, and video, the Technical Director must be a strong collaborator. This position will assist and mentor both graduate and undergraduate students. The Technical Director will serve as a safety officer and facilities manager within the department, and will work to ensure a safe working environment in both production shop and classroom spaces. Other duties may also be assigned. The work schedule includes evening, weekend, and holiday hours. This is a full time, 12 month, exempt position reporting to the Production Manager.

Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience required. MFA is a plus.

Job Description

Teach and mentor project management, structural design, welding and metal fabrication, scenic construction, digital drafting (AutoCAD) and technical design, scenic automation, stage electrics, and other specialized theatrical techniques. Enforce shop standards; shop supervision and maintenance plus theatre and electrics facilities; buy scenic and electrics supplies.

Technical Theatre Supervisor - CCNY

The City College of New York, located in Harlem, has an extraordinarily diverse and vibrant Theatre Department (, which is fueled by a continuously working, full-time faculty of professional Directors, Actors, Playwrights, etc; and energized by a dedicated collection of students from all over the world. Annual activities include: faculty-directed shows; student-directed productions; an annual one-act festival; Workshops; the premieres of a number of new plays; and a CUNY-wide theatre festival; in addition to classes in Theatre, Speech and Dance. In January or August of 2019, the Department will be adding a Technical Supervisor (the University calls it a CLT, or College Laboratory Technician), who will be responsible for: Daily and long-term maintenance of the studio spaces (including the lighting systems, sound systems and other specialty equipment) in Compton Goethals Hall; Technical supervision of multiple Student and Workshop Productions; Supervision of the student Studio Theatre Managers; and Reporting to and receiving project assignments from the Department Chair and the Department Administrator. There may also be the possibility of design work and adjunct teaching opportunities, so teaching and design experience would be beneficial.
